Long-standing contributor to The Sunday Times, writing regular A-list interview features and cover stories for the award-winning Culture section (subjects inc. Robert De Niro, George Clooney, Dustin Hoffman, Hugh Grant, Jerry Seinfeld, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig).

 

Ex-US Editor of Empire magazine (based in LA), with contributions to The Guardian, Elle, The Telegraph, Marie Claire, Radio TimesThe Word, Entertainment Weekly (some while freelancing in New York). Broadcasting for BBC1, Channel 4, 5Live, Talksport, BBC America.

Author of film biography Tarantino (Cassell, 1995); Back Home: England and the 1970 World Cup (Orion, 2001), which The Times called "Truly outstanding"; Dead Reckoning: The Dunedin Star Disaster (Orion, 2005), nominated for the Mountbatten Maritime Prize.

 

As a fiction writer, I penned the Amazon/Kindle No.1 bestselling "Ingo Finch" historical thriller trilogy No Ordinary Killing (Canelo, 2018), The Cold North Sea (2018) and Hell Gate (2020). Also out in paperback and audio ("Riveting and beautifully written" – Alex Gerlis).

Writer/producer of several series of the No.1-charting podcast, Real Dictators (Noiser). 100m listens and counting. Best Podcast (Arts&Culture), British Podcast Awards, 2021.

I have written commercially for Ikea; workshopped scripts for television (Dennis & Gnasher Unleashed!); and wrote the original screenplay for the US comedy film Melvin Smarty (Liria Films, 2012). Guest lecturer at the Univ. of Gloucestershire's Media Festival. Hosted onstage The Times Plus event, An Evening with Jonathan Dimbleby (2016).
